Hotel Daroca Posada del Almudi

Daroca is one of those cities that you just fall in love with more and more with every visit. It is located at the bottom of a deep valley, protected by a commanding castle and surrounded by clay hills swathed in pine forests that give this extraordinary countryside an inimitable reddish tinge as the sun goes down whatever season it may be. The city of Daroca is one of the most important collections of monuments in Aragón, declared as an artistic-historical collection in 1931..

Founded by the Muslims at the end of the VIII century, it gathers a number of notable buildings together in one space. With different styles ranging from Romanic to Mudéjar style to Gothic all the way to Renaissance. The collegiate church, which is full of artistic treasures, stands out along with its museums and various Aragonese type palaces. It is surrounded by a walled precinct which stretches nearly four kilometres in length, with two monumental gateways and also the most important hydraulic tunnel in Modern Europe. Before the idea of its construction, a 50-metre-long mine was all there was to keep the city from being flooded.

Any time of year is a good time to visit but there is a special flavour in the air during the traditional music festival with musicians in the street and the town's churches provide the sound track to this gentle walk. Other times to visit are during the celebration of the county fairs which get all the local people together from the area known as Campo de Daroca, the medieval fair or the pasta and sweets fair.

In the surrounding area there are natural spaces to visit which are unique in the whole of Europe, such as the nearby Gallocanta Lagoon.
